Learn how to increase the quality of your life

“The quality of your life is directly related to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably handle” Anthony Robbins

It’s important to recognise that everybody really is different. Some people thrive on challenges as a measure of success. Others take great risks which aren’t always in their best interests. Some people need predictability as a measure of their safety. Others feel fearful about making any changes. Then there’s some that attain a comfortable balance.

How would you describe your comfort level in relation to taking risks, making changes and tolerating uncertainty? Do you want to increase the quality of your life?

Try thinking about 1 challenge you want to set yourself this year and have a go at this exercise:

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate yourself in handling uncertainty? You can think about this in terms of 1 specific challenge you’d like to set, a goal you’d like to attain or the status of your life in general.

(1 = can’t tolerate uncertainty/need predictability

10 = can handle high amount of uncertainty/easily adapt to change)

Now look at your score and ask yourself

1. “what are my fears?”

2. “what would need to happen to change …(number) to this…(number)?”

3. “what would I need to put in place to support my level of uncomfortability?”

How did you find this exercise? Was it helpful in getting you closer to making a decision about your challenge, goal, life status? What will it take to make it happen?

7 Tips to manage uncertainty or fear of change:

1. What’s the worse case scenario?

3. Get feedback from others

4. Create pros and cons list

Be sure to include these 4 areas – pros of staying the same, cons of staying the same, cons of making changes (what are the risks for you in making changes) and pros of making changes (what will your goal achieve).

5. Make a decision

Make a firm decision about you’re willing and not willing to do and be clear about your reasons why.

6. Create an action plan
